Virgin Mobile began its services in 1999 in the UK and enjoyed the distinction of being the first Mobile Virtual Network Operator in the world. Although Virgin does not look after network services, it only provides its brand name to the network operators of the world and thus offers its mobile phone services to the users. The Virgin mobile network is available in countries like the United States, Australia, France, South Africa, Canada and the brand also offered its mobile services to customers in Singapore. One of the characteristics of Virgin Mobile in the countries it operates in is that its services are offered on a prepaid pay-as-you-go basis. The services of Virgin Mobile are not only some of the coolest but also the handsets it offers are on a par with the top mobile phone companies.

The Network of Virgin Mobile Phones

The Virgin Mobile Phone service has a global presence and its services are offered with the existing network service providers of each nation. In the UK, Virgin mobile provides network services through the T-Mobile network, while in the United States, Virgin provides its services through the network operator Sprint Nextel. In Australia, Virgin mobile services are offered from the Optus network and Bell Mobility offers Virgin subscribers their network services in Canada. French subscribers are offered Virgin through the network provider Orange SA., and Cell C Company provides the network for Virgin subscribers in South Africa. The mobile network of Virgin is offered in the CDMA and GSM standards. The GSM standard is used in countries such as France, Australia, the UK and South Africa. In the United States and Canada Virgin offers the CDMA mobile telephony standard through its network providers.

In addition to its prepaid pay-as-you-go service, Virgin also offers its customers the option of post-paid connection only for its approved subscribers in countries like South Africa, US, Australia, and the UK. One distinctive thing about the services of Virgin mobile is its award winning customer service that ensures a complete support for its subscribers. The Canadian services of Virgin mobile is worth mentioning for it won the J.D. Power and Associates' annual award for highest customer satisfaction for pre-paid wireless, three years in a row. The Virgin brand also opened 60 Virgin Mini Stores in Canada due to high customer demand.

Virgin Mini Stores are generally found at the shopping malls. Virgin Canada is also planning to offer its subscribers post paid mobile plans.

In Singapore Virgin launched its services in October 2001 in collaboration with Singtel. However, the service was short lived and was discontinued the next year due to an inadequate customer base.

Variety of Virgin Mobile Phones

The variety of configurations in the mobile phones offered by Virgin is simply stunning and one can use them for simple conversation to getting connected to the internet. They can compete with any other phones in the market. Each of the mobile phones available with the Virgin brand vary from country to country but in most of the countries the well known brands like Samsung, Motorola, Nokia and others are offered. The Virgin Mobile Slice cell phone is offered in the United States and its small design is not found in any other phone in the market. The phone comes with in built speakerphone and features a color display of as many as 65,000 colors.

Another exciting cell phone offered by Virgin is the Virgin Mobile Cyclops which is a flip phone. The phone features a vertical display and comes with a 1.3 mega pixel camera. This phone has an in built AOL instant messenger. The photos can be shared with friends and also printed. The Virgin mobile oyster is another interesting line of cell phones available to subscribers. A flip phone features voice-activated dialing, built-in speakerphone, real-music Virgin Superphonic ringtones, and also games for the ultimate pleasure of the users. This Virgin cell phone is packed with many useful features and what's more, it comes at a very affordable price.
