The manufacturer of Palm Mobiles
Palm mobile phones, better known as the PDA, are manufactured by Californian Company, Palm Inc. situated in
Sunnyvale. They produce other out of the world products such as Life Drive, Treo Smartphones, Tungsten PDAs
and Zire. All these are variances of PDAs and changed the face of mobile devices. The computer and Internet
were brought to the "Palms" of the consumers through PDAs. Various types of PDAs provided a variety of features
to the users.
About the Palm company
Palm Computing Inc. was established by Jeff Hawkins in 1992. In the 1995 the company was owned by U.S. Robotics
Corporation. Later, in 1997 it became the supplementary company of 3Com. In mid 1998 the founders became upset
with 3Com saying that 3Com was taking the Palm Company in the wrong direction. As a result the founders left the
3Com group and established a new company called "Handspring". In March 2000, 3Com made the Palm company an independent
company and publicly traded under the symbol PALM.
In January 2002, Palm set up a new subsidiary which was completely owned by Palm Inc. The subsidiary started to work
towards developing and licensing the Palm OS. The new Palm OS was called "PalmSource". Later PalmSource made itself
an independent company renaming the company "PalmOne". They are now known as "ACCESS Systems Americas Inc." as they
are currently the subsidiary of ACCESS.
The new division, "PalmOne", deals with the hardware; trading under the name "PLMO". In April 2005 the shares of
PalmSource were bought by PalmOne for US $30 million. The PalmOne company changed its name once again to Palm Inc.
In January 2006, Palm Inc. launched its all new Palm model Treo 700w. This was the first mobile powered by Windows
Mobile, with partners Microsoft and Verizon Wireless. In 2006 ACCESS was paid $44 million by Palm Inc. With this
deal the Palm Inc. can develop software and hardware and transform the licensed software as needed.
Palm formed a relationship with "Elevation Partners" in mid 2007; Elevation Partners being a private equity firm. The
firm has purchased an equity stock of 25% of Palm Inc. for $325 million. Palm Inc has launched a wide range of mobile
devises in recent years.
Treo 650 and Treo 680 mobile phones
